Baking soda is usually known for its abilities in the kitchen for cooking and baking.
But, did you know that back in the 1920s we primarily used it for medicinal application?
Yes, it turns out that this white powder is highly effective for many other uses beyond baking and we want to share eleven great ways it can help make your life better.
1. Natural Cleanser for Fresh Produce
Baking soda can be used for cleaning your fruits and veggies.
Personally, I buy only organic produce so I’m only concerned with washing off dirt or oil from human hands touching it in the market. This is perfect for this kind of application.
If you want to get fancy, mix some baking soda with apple cider vinegar to clean around the house (bathroom, kitchen, the grill, etc. In addition, you can use baking soda as a fabric whitener.
2. Insect Bites and Poison Ivy
Simply make a paste with water and apply it on insect bites (or for poison ivy) to remove the itching sensation.
3. Heartburn and Indigestion (some ulcers)
Mix 16 ounces of water with ½ tsp. of baking soda and drink the mixture every second hour in order to treat stomach acid, indigestion, heartburn, and ulcer pain.
4. Foot Cleanse and Exfoliator
Mix warm water with 3 tablespoons of baking soda and soak your feet in it. Or, make a paste and scrub your feet with it in order to cleanse the skin.
5. Relaxing Body Soak
Mix apple cider vinegar with baking soda it a nice hot bath for a good 20-30 minute soak.
6. Gentle Hand Cleanser
Mix water and baking soda in ration 1:3 and use the mixture to clean your hands from unpleasant smells and dirt.

Add a half cup of baking soda in some warm water and soak yourself in it order to treat sunburns. Or, dip a cloth or a towel in the mixture and apply on the painful areas directly.
9. Toothpaste and Gum Paste
A recent scientific study demonstrated that baking soda stimulates plaque removal of teeth even better than a traditional toothpaste brushing. It eliminates bacteria in the mouth. Mix baking soda and salt in 6:1 ratio to get rid of the bacteria in your gums. Take small amount on your index finger and rub the gums.
10. Teeth whitener
This is why you see “baking soda” as a prominent ingredient in most brands of toothpaste these days. It works! Apply a baking soda and water paste on your teeth and leave it for five minutes. Do this as often as you like until you see the effect desired.
11. Natural Deodorant
Antiperspirants have a lot bad/toxic stuff in them (e.g. aluminum and parabens) and using baking soda deodorant is much healthier. Apply a baking soda and water paste under your armpits like normal deodorant, add a drop of lavender essential oil for fragrance.
