Summer is coming!
And for many of us that mean something else is coming in swarms! Yes, the blood-sucking insect we all know and love.
The go-to solution is to take a chemical bath (repellent) and smell like crap on top of it. The problem with this solution is that most insect repellents are saturated in harmful chemicals, including the pesticide DEET, which is so poisonous that even the Environmental Protection Agency says you should avoid breathing it in at all costs.
I have a better solution…
Vitamin B1 (also known as thiamine) is an essential vitamin your body loves. It can be found in foods such as oatmeal, asparagus, kale, liver, and eggs and is important in fighting stress and boosting immunity.
As one of the water-soluble vitamins, any excess that your body doesn’t use gets flushed out when you urinate, so there’s no need to worry about taking too much.
What’s awesome about the effects of Vitamin B1 is that it changes the way you actually smell to those tiny vampires. It essentially makes you smell like garbage to mosquitos.
It doesn’t, however, change your actual odor.
Take 100 mg of Vitamin B1 every day. Within two weeks, you should start noticing a decrease in the frequency of getting bitten.
In addition to taking thiamine, I strongly suggest that you try this natural mosquito repellent recipe below.
Natural Non-Toxic Mosquito Repellent
- 25 drops tea tree essential oil
- 25 drops lavender essential oil
- 1 teaspoon witch hazel with aloe
Just fill a 16-ounce spray bottle only half way up with water and add the ingredients above.
