Government regulatory agencies require only a fraction of the chemicals used in consumer products to be tested. They are generally allowed into the market until harmful effects are discovered through widespread use.
In the U.S., the Toxic Substances Control Act was passed in 1976, which is eons ago in the world of chemistry and manufacturing.
Many of these chemicals, such as ethyl acetate, petroleum distillates and nonylphenol ethoxylate have been connected with devastating and dangerous effects to both human health and the natural environment.
A 2008 study found that of all the top selling laundry detergent brands tested, each contained at least one ingredient considered hazardous under federal law. None of these ingredients was listed on the label. Additionally, the study didn’t disclose which brands were tested.
Sometimes it seems nothing can clean that stubborn stain thoroughly, not even the most popular stain cleaner. You may try washing it off over and over again, but you’ll only end up with a chemical-laden shirt which still has that stain.
Luckily, there are few natural ingredients which can help you remove that stain from your white clothes and make them pure white quickly, and efficiently.
It is very simple to use it, and you just have to pour 10 liters of water in a large bowl. Next, add few crystals of potassium permanganate in the water, until it turns into pink.
Be careful not to put too much potassium permanganate, because the water shouldn’t get dark purple color. After that, pour 200 grams of laundry detergent in the water and stir well.
Once the solution is prepared, you should put your laundry in it. Take a nylon bag or a cloth you use in the kitchen, and wrap the bowl. Leave your laundry in the solution like this for at least 4 to 5 hours, or you can simply leave it to sit during the night.
Vinegar and Lemon
Last but not least, some lemon juice and vinegar will help you clean your white clothes and remove any stain from them. Just mix them in 1:1 ratio, and use the solution to wash your clothes. Your favorite white shirt will no longer be stained.
What’s more, it’ll restore the white color it had when you first bought it and will smell fresh.
Soak your clothes in a solution of one cup of baking soda in four liters of water. Leave them for a few minutes, and you’ll notice they regain their original color.
Here’s another great tip to restore the white color of your clothes as well as remove that stubborn food and wine stain.
Crush six aspirins and add them to a bowl of water. Then, just soak your clothes for half an hour. The next step is washing them with your regular detergent. Your clothes will be as white as new.
