An upsetting case of a grandfather being abused by a care worker was caught on camera at a care home in Ottawa, Canada.
The man’s grandson, Daniel Nassrallah, had installed a camera in his grandfather’s room — with the care home’s approval — after he had noticed strange bruises on his grandfather’s skin. Daniel’s grandfather George Karam suffers from Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Although the staff would have known the camera was there, Daniel was shocked when he saw what the camera recorded. You can see for yourself below:
How horrible! The care worker, Jie Xiao hit George in the face 11 times. In the video, you can see that the 89-year-old, who suffers from dementia, is unable to defend himself in the incident. Xiao roughly changes his diaper and repeatedly punches him on the chin.
It is terrible to see that people who are supposed to be taking care of our loved ones may actually be abusing them like this. After the video was made public, the nursing home dismissed the care assistant. He was prosecuted and pleaded guilty to assault. We hope his sentence will help prevent cases like this happening in future. No defenseless grandfather should be mistreated like this!
