These two kissed after saying their vows — but when I saw the bride’s feet my jaw dropped.

Every engaged couple wants to make their wedding a unique, unforgettable experience. For many that means gathering all their friends and family together, for others it’s a matter of where: the location should be really special.
Californians James Sissom and Ashley Schmieder knew exactly what they wanted. The scene for their wedding was going to be the highest mountain in the world, Mount Everest.

The enthusiastic mountain climbers spent an entire year planning their trip to the Himalayas. Once they were there they struggled through bitter cold on the rough path, enduring altitude sickness as they ascended, but finally reaching Base Camp at well over 17,000 feet above sea-level.

There before the breathtaking backdrop of the greatest mountain in the world, they said their vows — James in his best suit and Ashley in a gorgeous wedding dress (and a warm, furry wrap around her shoulders).

Only if you look closer at the newlyweds’ feet would you suspect something unusual: by keeping their hiking boots on, they took care not to freeze or slip on the icy ground!

Their photographer, Charleton Churchill, a specialist in adventurously-located weddings, traveled with them. But even for him it was unusual.

The pictures he took of James and Ashley speak for themselves: two very happy people standing in front of the entire, overwhelming beauty of nature. Simply extraordinary.
